It's been a while since I have updated because we have been on vacation. It was the puppies' first long (one week) vacation and it was to Cape Cod (Eastham). They have been to the Cape before but only for an overnight and never before during the summer. They did a fabulous job of just going with the flow all week long. They really are great, easy puppies and we are very lucky. We still have areas we want to work on but the ease of taking them on vacation really made us see how wonderful they are.
The puppies went on a beach tour during their week away. While the weather was quite stormy across the rest of the state, we only had one rainy day all week. The first beach they visited was Campground Beach in Eastham on the bay side. They visited this beach "illegally" (shhh), as dogs are prohibited from most public beaches between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The puppies came down for the sunset one night though, as this beach was very close to the house we rented. They love the beach and the sand and both really enjoy digging holes. Skippy especially enjoys digging when it results in him digging up something that smells fishy. They visited Nauset Light Beach in Eastham, which is a Cape Cod National Seashore beach. National Seashore beaches that are run by the National Seashore and not by towns (there's a difference) allow dogs to pass through lifeguard protected areas into non-protected areas where they can be at any time. We spent a full day there with the pups and did a lot of walking on that beach at night. They were afraid of the big waves at Nauset Light Beach but they loved playing in the sand and lying under the beach umbrella. The biggest hit with the puppies was Crow's Pasture, which they visited on their first Cape trip back in March. Since Crow's Pasture is on the bay side in Dennis, we were able to walk way out with them during low tide (which we planned our trip there around). They puppies loved running through the tidal pools and Tessie had a great time chasing the birds. They both swam while there and we think they really enjoyed themselves. Overall it was a fabulous trip!
